What Time Does GTA 6 Release in Australia? PS5 & Xbox Unlock Times by City
GTA 6 unlocks in Australia at 12am AEDT on Thursday, November 19, 2026, on both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. That's midnight in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Hobart. Australia appears to get a single national unlock time, though, so the rest of the country gets in on Wednesday night: 11:30pm in Adelaide, 11pm in Brisbane, 10:30pm in Darwin and 9pm in Perth.
Rockstar has confirmed the November 19 release date but hasn't announced a launch time. The times on this page come from the release timestamp on the Australian PlayStation Store listing, converted into each capital's local time. They're very likely to be right, but they aren't official, and we'll update this page if anything changes.

These times apply to your whole state, not just the capital. The one common exception is Broken Hill, which is in New South Wales but runs on Adelaide time, so it gets in at 11:30pm on Wednesday.
Why Perth gets GTA 6 three hours before Melbourne
Digital games unlock by store region, not by your own time zone. The Australian PlayStation Store lists one release moment for the whole country: 1pm UTC on November 18. On the east coast that's exactly midnight. Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia don't use daylight saving, and South Australia sits half an hour behind the east, so the same moment arrives earlier on their clocks.
So if you're in Perth, you don't need to stay up until midnight. You can be playing at 9pm on Wednesday night.
Where these times come from
This is exactly what we checked on October 27, 2026:
- Release date (confirmed): Rockstar announced on November 6, 2025 that the game launches on November 19, 2026, and its pre-order announcement repeats that date for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Our GTA 6 release date page covers how the date moved.
- Australian PlayStation Store: the GTA VI listing carries a release timestamp of 2026-11-18T13:00:00Z. That's 1pm UTC on November 18, which is 12am AEDT on November 19.
- Australian Xbox Store: the listing shows a release date of 11/18/2026 but no time. That date matches the same 1pm UTC moment, which is still November 18 in UTC.
- Rockstar: no launch time has been announced on Rockstar's site or Newswire.
Store timestamps can change before launch, so we'll check both listings again in the week of release.
Is GTA 6 released at the same time worldwide?
No. The launch rolls around the world country by country, starting in New Zealand and finishing in the Americas. This is the schedule reported from PlayStation Store listings, with each time converted to Sydney and Melbourne time:

That means east coast players get about 16 hours of GTA 6 before anyone in the US can start, which also means Australians are among the first people who could spoil it for everyone else. The New Zealand, US and UK rows are reported by Dexerto and VICE from PlayStation Store data. We checked the US listing ourselves (5am UTC, November 19).
Do PS5 and Xbox unlock at the same time?
As far as the store listings show, yes. The PlayStation timestamp and the Xbox release date both point to the same moment for Australia. Microsoft hasn't published an exact time, so the Xbox time is slightly less certain than the PS5 one.
Physical copies won't get you in any sooner. Rockstar says the physical edition contains a download code rather than a disc, so it unlocks at the same time as the digital version. GTA 6 isn't coming to PS4, and no PC version has been announced.
Can Australians play earlier with the New Zealand trick?
Only by about two hours, and it comes with real downsides. New Zealand unlocks at 10pm AEDT on Wednesday. On Xbox, some players plan to switch their console's region to New Zealand. On PS5, regions are tied to the account, so it would mean making a New Zealand account and buying a second copy there.

What to do before launch night
- Buy it before November 12 if you can. Rockstar says digital pre-orders can start preloading on November 12, and the physical edition (a code in a box) goes on sale that day for the same reason. Our GTA 6 preload guide for Australia has step-by-step instructions for PS5 and Xbox.
- Clear storage space. Rockstar hasn't announced the file size yet. Check how long GTA 6 will take to download on your NBN speed.
- Leave your console connected. On PS5, turn on "Stay Connected to the Internet" in rest mode. On Xbox, use the Sleep power mode, so any launch update can download before you sit down.
- Avoid spoilers. Reviews are reportedly due on November 18, according to Insider Gaming (Rockstar hasn't confirmed this), and New Zealand players start two hours ahead of the east coast. If you want to go in fresh, our Launch Trailer breakdown is as far as we'd go.

Is the release time officially confirmed? Not by Rockstar. The date is official. The time comes from the Australian store listings, which is how the game will actually unlock unless Sony, Microsoft or Rockstar changes it.
Do I need to be online at midnight? Plan on it. Even with a fully preloaded copy, your console has to confirm with PlayStation Network or Xbox network that the game has unlocked, so don't rely on playing offline the first time.
